...Chick Lit vs. Lad Lit

The new genres in literature. The moment you walk into a major bookstore, you will see these books arranged neatly on the shelf, all with bright and colourful cover designs. Interesting and catchy titles too.

At one point, I was actually digging in the Chick Lits. Well, the usual stuff... an ordinary working girl... age late twenties or early thirties... girl meets boy... girl falls in love with boy... girl did something stupid... boy accepts girl... girl and boy live happily as can be in this post-modern society.
E.g.: Helen Fielding's Bridget Jone's Diary, Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series, etc...

Haven't really had much exposure to Lad Lits yet. So can't comment much. Anybody care to enlighten me?
E.g.: Nick Hornby's High Fidelity and About a Boy

...the fairytale element in life.

Turning yourself into a fish? That sounds gross. Being a big fish in a little pond? Now, that's something to ponder upon.

As I watch the ending of Big Fish, I was overwhelmed with the knowledge of what imagination can do. Well, some people will call it lies or the inability to face reality. However I deem it a special gift to be able to romanticise your life into a great tale. Why see your life as ordinary, filled with normalcy and logic when you can interpret it differently? But do not mistaken this for escapism. It is not to escape the realities of life. Rather, it is to enhance life's realities. Well, it may be exaggeration of the truth but heck, it's perfect for storytelling.

...Newton's Third Law.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Hey, it is either working out according to your plans or it is not. In life, everyone is actually dependent on everyone. This goes to show how (wo)man cannot live alone. When things goes awry and you say 'This not my fault!", what can you do but bear with it. No matter how much effort you put into planning, there is bound to be something that goes at least an inch out.

Life is just a big chain of reaction. One thing alway leads to another. One tiny decision of yours will affect not only you but many other people. But we can't be a fatalist either. Coz there's always hope. How we react to something is what sets us apart.

Take heart, my friends!

...imposing a self-restraint order.

SOS!

I really cannot help it. I admit I have no self-control. I get seduced by the look of them. I sigh with the pleasure of touching them. I can't say 'No'. I just can't stay away.

Someone please stop me from buying more books until I read all the books in my shelf!!

I know I trapped myself into this neverending affair with books. It's either one or the other and maybe three of them at one go. My heart flutters when I see a new one. I reminisce about the old ones. I promise not to abandon any. I just want to have all my beloveds within my fingertips.

And one just arrived yesterday...

...what it takes to be a writer.

To write a book that can sell is not as easy as it seems. It gotta be different and yet identifiable to the readers.

Dreams lay as dreams
We once thought of publishing a book where each one of us contributes a short chapter. No action talk only. Is it so difficult to pen down all the ideas that we oft throw at each other? Apparently so.

Life's story
Write a story about your life. "That's boring!" Hey, a good writer can take a normal life and make it interesting. Coz the secret lies in how you write it. The approach and the style are all that matters. "Really?"

Waiting for the juices of creativity to flow
Maybe we are all trying too hard to be different that we end up being typical. Either that or it's just excuses, excuses, excuses and excuses. Juices cannot flow until you squeeze the fruit. Have we even "try"? Nah...

So, who's going to take up the challenge?
Zzzz... Zzzz... Zzzz... Zzzz... Zzzz...
